Hi Christer,

nice to hear from you....
about the optmizations: I have not much more
ideas currently.... There are some
places in the wrapper which could be optimzed
(much?) further (e.g. fog code, alpha and color
combine mappings, etc...) - but until now I've mainly concentrated
on getting as many games as possible to work with
the best visuals possible... (i.e. my dream would
be to turn the compatitibility of the wrapper
up to 95% perhaps....) And I am afraid this game
is no yet over: there are some games which
annoy me because they don't work at all:
NFSIISE, TUROK, NHL98,etc....
Pandemonium II is another problem for me: it runs
and looks good now, but somewhere mid in the demo
level it slows down inacceptably....
I don't know what to do (I've just implemented
simple clipping for guDrawTriangleWithClip, but
it did not change much for this game!)
Perhaps, simply my old P133 is much too slow for
this game (a German mag says something about
PandemoniumII being quite CPU demanding... - on a
3dfx, of course).
The only optimization I worked on so far was the
custom routine for texture setup and loading....
I still have no idea whether this was much
a gain (still haven't found any game suitable
for benchmarking!!!)

About future games: I am currently testing
HexenII and Quake II because these games had an interesting
problem on startup. Two hours ago, I finally
found the problem with the 3dfx opengl driver for
QuakeII_test - Quake II now runs somehow - the
background textures are currently missing, and it
is quite slow (P133!), but, anyway, I am very happy!!!
The problem was something quite unexpected: the 3dfx
opengl driver expects exactly the same texture-memory sizes
a normal 3dfx card would return.... (something like
a hidden test for true 3dfxs?)
Until now, I did ignore Mipmaps and simply returned the
memory size of the biggest texture....

Now Hexen II could/should work as well, I will test
it really soon....

My reason for testing HexenII and QuakeII at all: these
are mainly my preparations for Unreal....
Unfortunately I still haven't upgraded my machine,
so I can't even install Unreal right now....(Yesterday
I found Unreal in stores here in Austria for the
first time)

I will post an update on all this very soon....

Marvin
